Long boards are the original type of board. They are longer , of course, but this does not make things "easier". Long boards are a more relaxed and chill lifestyle, and tricks are not so sharp or extreme but rather a personal style. A misconecption about long boards is that it is for old guys and when the waves are dead but that is not entirly true. Long boards have been around for a lot loner and are more expensive but the reason why people ride them is because they are alot more layed back then short boards. You can be entirely goofy, do hand stands, tandum ride, switch boards, and soly have fun.

Short boards on the other hand give extreme to the name of the sport. Shap turns huge drop ins and tricks that defy gravity are just the start with the quick boards. Harder to paddle on, yet easier to turn. You sacrifice your easy going manner when your fighting for a wave. Short boards make you go into a competitive nature because of the amount of work invested in learning tricks and the energy wasted in just paddling alone. Short boards can run as expensive as long boards but are normally cheaper. Short boards cant be used on days with small waves but are ideal for larger waves.

There are short boards that mock the way long boards are used such as the Bean Bag from Lost or Beater Boards they are rounded nosed boards that make it easier to balance which sacrificed sharp turns, although they brings the relaxed nature back into the boards. One of the coolest things with short boards are that they constitntly change. longboards shapes dont change often but short boards can run from diamonds, to rectangles, to ovals, to any form imaginable.
